Training task (Luke, 10, 4 and Trance)
He'd listened to the Librarian's talk and demonstration, still trying to take it all in. He wasn't as completely surprised as he surmised some of the others in the room might be. It was strange and new, but his life hadn't exactly been normal since he'd left Tattooine all those years ago. Most of the beings, human or otherwise, were strangers to him, although he was still coming to grips that somehow, Tarkin was here as well. He had what Han would call a bad feeling that they were going to squabble a lot before this was through. Part of Luke still wanted to kill the Imperial, after what he'd done to Leia and Alderaan. But, a Jedi did not seek revenge. He'd probably just do his best to stay out of Tarkin's way when they were all in here and not get into too many fights.
The books, apparently, were like portals or gates, passages to different worlds. The one his fingers ended up opening was...great, a farm. Just about the lowest thing on his list to see. Of course, raising crops and animals was a different thing than moisture farming in the desert, but he suspected there'd be some similarities, too.
He'd been told it was best to go about this with partners, so he'd talked to a few of others and there were four of them now as they prepared to step through the portal.

Of course, not going to say anything to himself as Ten notices that Ten himself can't feel his own link and gathers that Four can't either.
However, Trance just had to come along for the ride too - granted it's nice seeing people who want to help but Ten's first meeting with Trance is a mix-bag and most importantly, whatever though Trance or on her stated that Ten 'chose the name The Doctor' - needs to protect himself before being able to talk to himself alone.
As far as himself hurting about the loss of Rose - apparently needs to be guarding himself now. If The Doctor is at all lucky, no one will ask names. If not - well he's got an ace up his sleeve or rather psychic paper for his other self. If Trance didn't already know that Ten calls himself The Doctor - Ten wouldn't be so concerned but can't backpedal now on her.
Staring out at the scene before them, it appears to look like Mid- Evil Earth but when exactly The Doctor can't say and wonders if the book they stepped into now was Robin Hood.
After hearing the Head Librarians voice echo through the place, which none of this so far is on the strange meter. Expect his other self there strange and shouldn't be happening, Ten remarks,
"Alright. Let's get to work." As Ten eyes each of the other three, "We should probably divide up the tasks. Hmmm?"

"A farm? Not very exciting." He looked at those gathered, all humanoids. He can not place their species but there is something about the man in the suit that is...off putting. Perhaps it was the ears. Ignoring the man for now he turns towards Trace and Luke.
"Introductions should come first, I think. After all going 'excuse me, you' would get confusing after several attempts." He squinted at the area around them, slipping his hand in his pocket to look for something to munch on. "Dare say there doesn't look to be anything too pressing here."

In... Oh. It took a few moments for the scene to really sink in, and what it meant. It was an Earth that hadn't made contact with the other galaxies, pre-invasions, and before they started genetically enhancing themselves. At least, she couldn't imagine them being able to do so with how clean the world seemed. In a sense. It had a simple, young kind of beauty to it.
"Oh, yes," while he had moved a hand to a pocket, it didn't stop her from promptly offering hers for an chipper handshake. At the same time she held out her others towards the other man that she had also not met before. "Trance Gemini! Nice to meet you all. Though I'll say that, while I really love gardening and such..."
The devil-pointed tail raised up, giving a rather pointed wave back and forth. The tone of her words aren't very serious at all though, holding the very same bubbly energy from the beginning. "I'm gonna guess that I'll need something to cover up with as well. Unless people in book worlds don't react."

The others talked about things like dividing up the tasks, needing to fit in, and first of all, introductions. He nodded, agreeing that it made the most sense. The thought crossed his mind that in his Jedi robes, he might actually blend in somewhat.
"My name is Luke." he told them. "Luke Skywalker. I do agree with most of what you've all said...needing to do introductions and dividing up tasks and such." He didn't feel the need to include his title right now, it likely wouldn't mean much to the others anyway, and Luke was always a humble kind of guy anyway. If questions about his abilities came up, he'd be happy to explain, though.
He looked around at the landscape again. "I grew up on a farm, but a very different kind than this...It was a desert planet, and we used machines to farm moisture from the air. This is definitely not going to be the same. But, I travel a lot, so I'm used to adapting to different environments." He was used to the common technology of the galaxy, but there were plenty of times when he was called on to negotiate, to investigate potential Jedi, and other such things, where he had to visit planets that weren't as advanced as others. Or, like Tattooine, the Ewok village, and Yavin IV, they were mixes of modern technology and more primitive, simple ways of life.
He nodded to Trance as he shook hands. Naturally, he was used to species with a wide array of skins and pelts, so he didn't think much at all of her purple skin. Still, he knew how common negative reactions were to those who were different. "Yes, that's a good idea. Unfortunately, I don't think there are many places where people don't get frightened or distrustful of those who look different. There are probably thousands of races where I come from, and there's still no escaping discrimination, fear, and hate way too much of the time."

However, had he known that his other self-was going to be there - wouldn't have told Trance to follow him.
SCARFY! And could strangle his other for bringing up introductions. Of course, his younger self has no idea that someone else is also The Doctor and that switching to John Smith for Ten's self with Trance there would be suspicious and two people with both the name 'The Doctor' would also be odd. Or rather Ood.
If only Trance hadn't come off as suspicious at first with something in her knowing about having chosen his own name.
"Hallo. I'm The Doctor and this is my good friend John Smith." Ten waves with his fingers and smiles and then nudges the attention over to Four when 'John Smith' is mentioned, "Good to meet you all."
And takes any offered handshakes his way expect his other self.
"Alright!" Ten clasps his hands together, "Now, that's taken care of - Luke find something for Trance to be less suspicious and then you both - since you love gardening you've grown up on a farm - tend to the garden. And me and scarfy here will keep an eye out for any trouble. Good?"
Ten eyes around for any objections between them all. That or attach the trouble. The main point being Ten wanting to get his other self away from the group to talk about Trance.
no subject
The Doctor, not Doctor something or other, simply The Doctor. It, well it wasn't impossible. Nothing could truly fit into that awful word but it was certainly irregular! "John? I'm no-" And there was the clap, muffling any protest he may have given. "Yes. Trouble. Even the most peaceful looking place can bring that about." His gaze does not drift from Ten, focused on the younger seeming man completely.
Hang on.
"Scarfy?"
no subject
"Oh, this will be much easier," Trance added right after Luke mentioned a desert planet. But man, what a name to have. Luke Skywalker. "This is Earth, before they stripped the resources and their contact with the Commonwealth. Well, where I'm from at least. They'll probably think I'm a devil, or something like that."
It's actually really fascinating, having technically been the first time she really took any steps on the planet. It was nothing so spectacularly special in most ways, but the future it had was quite a thing on its own. Not particularly great, but instead notable. She was only able to ask "are you an ood too, John," with pure curiosity before the Doctor brought it all around to tasks. Not quite the leader-type as some others she knew, but hey. After already stating that she loved to garden, it all sounded well enough. Before getting started she wanted to give everyone a heads up. "Just try to be careful of getting exposed to anything unpleasant."
Earth was known for having plenty of diseases, and it was far worse before they made contact with the rest of the galaxy. She could only guess how much worse it was at this level of civilization. Otherwise, Trance was ready to link arms with Luke for their half of the job. "So, Luke. What kind of things did you grow on your farm?"
no subject
Her next words had him curious. The only Commonwealth he was aware of was the Separatist group from before the Galactic Civil War. "What's the commonwealth?" he asked. "That definitely doesn't sound good...the people of this planet stripped all of their own resources?"
It was usually governments like the Empire stripping planets, but it wasn't unheard of for a planet's own inhabitants to destroy it. The Hutts came to mind...he really hoped the people here weren't anything like them.
He nodded in agreement at her warning. "That's a good thing to remember...somehow I get the feeling medicine might be hard to come by around here." He was resilient to injury, and could always use a healing trance if worse came to worse, but even Jedi weren't immune to getting sick at times.
Luke realized she must not have heard all of his previous comment, and shook his head. "We didn't grow things, actually...nothing much can grow on my homeworld. We farmed water, I suppose you could say. Moisture farming to collect what we could from the atmosphere. That's why I said this would be very different...that type of farming mostly means keeping the machines working and keeping pests and invaders away."
no subject
She heard, but had also hoped that there was more than just that. "Oh... I hoped that the moisture farming also meant that it was being used for something else as well. Then again, that would make water a very desired resource. Your kind aren't native to that planet, are they? Usually you need things like plants and animals."
Trance wasn't about to assume that Luke was human because of his looks, after all. That would just be rude. The best that she remembered desert planets being used for, in recent history, is either for prisons or as a hideaway. Crouching down for a few seconds, the blonde presses against the ground for a second before digging up a pinch's worth to run between her index and thumb. "Either way, it might be a little different, but not hard if you're already used to physical labor. I'm sure the people here had something of a field nearby at some point."
no subject
She said some more about the moisture farming, and Luke replied "You know, no one's really sure...there is one story about humans originating on my homeworld, but then there's also another story about them coming from another planet first. I guess between it all being so long ago and things not always being written down, it's hard to tell."
He nodded. "Yeah, I thought so too. It's probably not that different from some places I've been...I'll manage all right. Do you think you'll be okay going through this?" he asked.
no subject
"Ah, I suppose that's the trick," she said with a quirk of a smile. "Your kind are usually able to adjust to the point that they can convince themselves they originated wherever they've landed. Though it sounds like a desert planet could've been a little abrasive."
You know, all that sand. Still, Trance scouted a little further, taking a moment to bounce a foot, or tail, against the ground. Even though there was a set up grounds sprawled ahead of them, the woman wanted to get more familiar with this planet while it was marginally younger. Gingerly picking up a cultivator with her tail, Trance continued further into the field. "Oh, definitely. Gardening is the easy part, and farming is just that on a wider scale. People are trickier, especially when they're scared."
She had seen the cruelty that could lead to, as well. While making a show of scanning the field, the woman could already feel and sense where things were in the growing process. What stage of life they were at. "Looks like we've got the fun part, though. Judging by the ready crops further down, the more empty looking ones should also have the root vegetables ready for digging up."
no subject
He's curious about her species, but doesn't want to push or sound rude. In the galaxy, she'd probably be called near-human, although he hasn't come across any with tails yet. Head ornaments, horns, head tails, yes, but not tails in the usual place.
He nodded as she talked about gardening. "I guess I do know a little. Where I teach, we can bring in some supplies, but it's also a big benefit to raise what we can of our own food. I don't often have time to get out with the group that's in charge of it, but I did read up about it a little bit and watch them some, so I'd have an idea what was going on." he said. He wasn't intending on bringing back agricorps or anything, but it was still nice that the academy was somewhat self-sufficient. Fruits and vegetables were raised or gathered in the jungle, animals were kept for meat and making fabric, ect. It was just faster than always bringing in everything given how long it could take to reach another planet, even in hyperspace.
"Yeah. I don't mind getting dirty, though, when I have to. I get the feeling finding a place to bathe'll be tough here, but I guess we'll make do. Won't be the first time I've dealt with it on a mission."
In hyperspace, there wasn't always a lot of room to clean or shave in an X-Wing, and pilots could smell pretty iffy by the time they landed. A couple days' worth of stubble was also typical. Same thing when he was on some missions on the ground-battle meant making do with what you had and putting the fighting first for as long as necessary to get through it.

She motioned to where the greens of said carrots were sticking out from the ground, flush and full of life. Hopping over to crouch down at the harvest, Trance was more than happy to continue the happy conversations as The Doctor and Mr Smith were taking care of their side of business. "What kind of things did you teach, Luke?"

Ten and Four
But Trance just had to mention disease. Of course, she did have a point. However, Ten found it unlikely that himself, Four and Trance not being human wouldn't become ill here. Luke on the other hand - The Doctor isn't sure about. Ten and Luke do need to chat later.
Trance also pinged for Ten the way The Doctor's fifth life died with Spectrox toxaemia. One of the worst deaths The Doctor has had (and one of the few illness that can kill even him) as that had been slow to die but at least then - The Doctor had been able to save his companion.
Not like Rose. Ten's brown eyes dull. Which he's still hurting from and hasn't found someone to talk too. Ten was going to talk to Trance about Rose but decided against it when Trance had proven to have some kind of knowing demon in her. That Trance herself may not be aware of.
Ten slowly peers back at Four with broken eyes. How The Doctor had been so young. So innocent. One the main qualities in why Ten loved Rose around him.
"I am who you think I am. I've already met Trance before in the Library. She's great on the surface but she's possessed by some creature," Ten empathizes the next sentence, "That knows we chose to be called The Doctor."
Ten continues to eye Four because he knows how you're going to die too.
"Whut's your most recent adventure?"
Ten and Four
"Possessed?" pale eyes were glaring, but if this man was who he claimed...the glare would do nothing. It wasn't impossible; Four had met one of his previous incarnation before. Or well, had at least been in the same room with him. "What is wrong with knowing we...I chose the title." He stuffed his hands in his pants pockets, a bit of a fit in him but he couldn't hide the curiosity burning in his own eyes. Was this who he would become? If so then when...how? How many between him and this strutting peacock?
"If you are myself, you know I renounced the Time Lords." Pompous arrogant...no, that is for another point. He waved one hand, beginning to pace a bit, "This is fascinating, you realize. The two of us, here at once. Without, well, any viable, visible threat." The grin spread across his face, "And time is not collapsing."
The grin reached Four's eyes, but he did not miss how his older eyes looked. It was something to keep in mind, because knowing himself even a little...it would be a difficult task to get even one iota of truth out of himself.
"Ribos. Travelling with Romana and K9." He raised an eyebrow, "Nothing exciting."
Ten and Four
"She had this other voice coming from her tattoo after I told her my name and it said, 'you chose to call yourself The Doctor."
Come now, self you know even if ask - yourself isn't going to give you answers. So keep wondering!
"Yes." Ten states simply with no emotion attached and doesn't seem to be bothered by having renounced the Time Lords. Himself - himselves didn't fit in with that society and way of life not interfering. Not having adventures.
"... Possibility because thar isn't any time." Haven't you noticed self that you can't tell when you are in here or The Library? There's also the fact that he's splintering off. How? What is strong enough to pull two of himselves from the Tardis?
"She prefers Fred from what I recall." So, his fourth incarnation is searching for the six segments of the Key to Time. So, this one is early on in the timeline of that incarnation.
Then glances around their surroundings, after all they need to keep an eye out for trouble.
Re: Ten and Four
"No time. Improbable." Which meant that was probably what was going on. Oh this was going to give him a head ache. Or would it? Searching for the Key of Time was important, there was no doubt. Already he was missing Romana's snitty voice and K9's acerbic humor. This would possibly be a bit of reprieve. A bit of one. He was stuck in a nexus world with...himself.
"Far too delicate a name for her." Also, it's rather good that Ten is keeping an eye out for trouble, as Four is now falling into his mind a bit. Two of him without threat to the Universe. How dilapidated was this library if it needed, not only two Time Lords but two Doctors to help save it?
Ten and Four
Concerned. Concerned is the word because if Trance or whatever is in Trance knew that what else does that thing know?
"Expect around her for some reason." At least a feel of time if anything but still something compared to the nothingness.
Looking out for trouble one way of putting - another thing is self - looking back isn't something The Doctor is very good at. In fact, looking at himself here hurts. Himself before the dark days -
Before the Time War and himself getting involved despite his running from getting involved in the Time War.
You are his innocence. Literally. With the loss of Rose weighing on him - yourself is going to watch over his self.
In all this silence if Four is to took into Ten's eyes - apparently a lot has happened.
Re: Ten and Four
He tapped his chin with a finger before pointing at Ten. Catching the look in his older self's eyes. The curiosity burned hotter and he grit his teeth in frustration. He couldn't ask...no time to collapse and he still could not ask.
"Then we stay around her. Simple." Except it never was nor will it be, it seemed. "Preoccupied was never a look I fancied." Pointed look at Ten.
Ten and Four
Even if Ten is sorely tempted to drop about The Time War and how to not get involved but then if he didn't - he would have died with everyone else and the rest of the universe while the Time Lords on Gallifrey ascended into higher beings of consciousness. The War Room in Gallifrey only cared about saving the Time Lords - middle f the rest of the universe.
Of course, thinking of another solution - there wasn't any. Did the only choice that is there without breaking time laws.
There's a deep sigh.
And what Ten really misses - self - is actually being able to keep the companion at arms length. But back then - there was always Gallifrey to go home too and can't help but envious of himself too because of that. The red grass, two suns and the mountains where himselves grew up in. Which for a moment someone appears to be reminiscing.
And some days - even if Ten won't admit it to himself either - he misses his childhood friend. Despite their very complicated history together. Space is lonely self when you have no one to go back to. No home to go back too.
"Yes. But around her, you're John Smith and we'll find out how much that thing knows..."
Re: Ten and Four
"I am The Doctor." That large grin appeared on his face again, "You can be John Smith." Yes he was aware the introduction were already done but frankly he didn't care. He wasn't the one obsessing over hiding in plain sight. Never was. He'd had enough hiding in his previous incarnation. Now was his time for adventure and exploration. Holidays on any and every planet that would welcome him.
"You are frustrating."
Ten and Four
Ten isn't going to ask why he's frustrating he knows exactly why.
Re: Ten and Four
He waved his hand in emphasis, Aside that, what point is there if she, or any others, can garner their own control by holding information over our heads."
Ten and Four
"Fine. But in that case - Doctor. I'm not leaving your side."
Re: Ten and Four
A faint pout on his lips and he tilted his head down enough to be nearly eye level, "So...that's why they're brown." Straightening up he turned to start through the woods again. "As you want, myself, as you want. But I won't wait for you. I've done three lives of waiting."
