Training task (Luke, 10, 4 and Trance)
He'd listened to the Librarian's talk and demonstration, still trying to take it all in. He wasn't as completely surprised as he surmised some of the others in the room might be. It was strange and new, but his life hadn't exactly been normal since he'd left Tattooine all those years ago. Most of the beings, human or otherwise, were strangers to him, although he was still coming to grips that somehow, Tarkin was here as well. He had what Han would call a bad feeling that they were going to squabble a lot before this was through. Part of Luke still wanted to kill the Imperial, after what he'd done to Leia and Alderaan. But, a Jedi did not seek revenge. He'd probably just do his best to stay out of Tarkin's way when they were all in here and not get into too many fights.
The books, apparently, were like portals or gates, passages to different worlds. The one his fingers ended up opening was...great, a farm. Just about the lowest thing on his list to see. Of course, raising crops and animals was a different thing than moisture farming in the desert, but he suspected there'd be some similarities, too.
He'd been told it was best to go about this with partners, so he'd talked to a few of others and there were four of them now as they prepared to step through the portal.

Re: Ten and Four
Or Four would begin to get antsy just standing about.
"Well you would know, wouldn't you? I only have three in front of me." But at least there was another one added. How many left between him and this peacock? how many events had occurred to put that look on his own face?
Re: Ten and Four
Ten finishes the rest of the jelly baby and still seeming to savor it. Like an orgasm in his mouth and like the jelly baby in his mouth misses when things were less complicated. Misses being able to return to Gallifrey despite the Time Lords and him having a never ending tug of war.
When - The Doctor didn't fall in love with humans. Looking at himself, that version and Romana were quite close but managed to actually keep the relationship at arms length.
Eighth Doctor. The last time that The Doctor would see The Master and when The Doctor would crash onto Karn and become involved in the Time War. Ten's aura grows distant and cold.
"We should probably see how Luke and Trance are doing. Don't you think?"
Re: Ten and Four
It wasn't just that of course.
"Possibly." His deep voice pitches a bit in annoyance, "At least that would be something I'm allowed witness too."
Ten and Four; contain for mentions of murdering
Ten hides his mouth behind his two hands as those are now folded in front of his mouth. The Doctor gets it. Himself wants to know what will happen. However, certain information really shouldn't be given out. Not even to himself.
Then with a big sigh both his hands fall into his lap and Ten stands up and with wide enthusiastic eyes states, "You will have MANY amazing adventures waiting, for you Scarfy! And you're going to enjoy all of those! Really. They're going to be brilliant."
Ten eyes himself with cold eyes and you other self will save Davros. When the Time Lords send you on a mission to kill all the Daleks.
And...
Ten should tell you right now to not to do that, shouldn't he? Ten eyes away from himself. Then The Doctor wouldn't be the only Time Lord and wouldn't need to be hiding. Then the blood that The Doctor feels on himself wouldn't be there. Then all those planets that the Daleks destroyed wouldn't have happened.
But is it right?
Then eyes back at Scarfy and remembers that version of himself when posed with that choice.
Just touch these two strands together and the Daleks are finished. Have I that right? You see some things could be better with the Daleks. Many future worlds would become allies just because of the Daleks. But the final responsibility is mine and mine alone. Listen if someone who knew the future pointed to a child and told you that child would grow up to be entirely evil and kill millions of lives -
could you then kill that child?
No. It's not right. That right is never there.
Without another word, Ten begins to walk again and does eye back to make sure himself isn't left behind.
Re: Ten and Four; contain for mentions of murdering
The change in demeanor calls more attention than the standing and flailing (perhaps Sarah was right on that). The Doctor can only raise an eyebrow at the vague statements, watching his older self begin to go. There was coldness in those eyes and he wonders just what sort of 'brilliant adventures' cause that.
Putting the bag away he carefully picks his way back towards his other self, mind whirling and attempting to put pieces into place. Without his natural abilities, Four knows he has to fall back to observation and calculation. Not an impossible task, simply time consuming. Which, ironically, is something he is not sure he has much of. This man could honestly be a future self, that possibility exists. Then again, this man could also be the Black Guardian.

The Doctor pauses when he comes across a rose bush and in his mind eyes has flashes of Rose almost being sucked away into the void and then hitting the wall with her on the other side in another dimension.
Dropping to his knees is quiet for a moment as if some kind of grief or guilt and then very careful - smells the rose flower that seems to be the perfect one in the batch to Ten and then tenderly touches the rose flower on the side.
And forgets about his other self that is traveling with Ten.

Four trails behind Ten on purpose, until the older man disappears from sight. With a bit of a thoughtful frown, he peered around, "Or something else could happen." He finally spots his other on the floor before a rose bush of all things. Quietly, the younger Doctor watches his older, future self. Watches the strange emotions play on his future face. Emotions that he was certain had never been on his face.
That would never be on his face.
"Roses?" He asks after a lengthy pause. "Sentimental over roses?"
no subject
That is something his other self just may need to know.
When his other self-speaks to Ten, while still kneeling peers over. Rose could be here. Could end up here but - Rose may not know Ten's face. She could know the face that The Doctor met Rose in. The ears and leather face and then Rose could be and Ten shouldn't be around her. Ten eyes away halfway during that thought and lets a few tears run down his cheeks.
There's no answer as Four's older self-takes out his sonic screwdriverfrom his inside suitcoat pocket and cuts off the rose flower that The Doctor had been tenderly touching and smelling. Looks at the rose flower once more before that also goes inside his suitcoat with the sonic and stands back on his feet to continue walking.

The tugging on his hearts felt awkward and he considers moving forward to do, something comforting. But he has yet to learn about comforting. It isn't something he will not learn for five incarnations. Yet here, where he is his own in some twisted way, he can only watch in confusion as his other self takes the rose. So focused is Four on Ten that he misses the chance to examine the screwdriver. Mental curse there but now his other is moving and Four glares at the retreating back.
Fortunatly, he has long legs and uses them to catch up with his older.

Roses.
He shook his head and easily stepped over the bush, tugging his scarf free as he caught up with the older man. "I believe we've gone far enough to find anything worth while." He frowned, what was that?
It was a familiar sound...he'd heard it before somewhere. Frowning in thought he glanced around, "Did you hear that?" Maybe he was hearing things again.
Feeling things though, that was hard to imagine. He gave a short gasp when he felt something go through his hat. "Well, my dear Cockatoo. I believe we have company." He grinned widely and showed Ten his hat, an arrow pierced through it completely. "And here I thought this was going to be a simple constitutional."

Stepping slightly backwards, Ten presses the back of himself slightly against his younger self and his arms spread out to each side as if trying to hold his younger self - sort of in place.
As Ten is already thinking up a plan to scare them off. Which now, involves getting their sonics out and pretending to be wizards.
Ten goes for his sonic and remarks, "Get your sonic out."

"Now considering I was facing you, and the arrow point is also facing you. That means our friends are directly behind us." He frowns as he glanced around, "Well if they're going to hide, this is going to get awfully munda- ah! There you are!"
From the shadows of the trees, several armed men (swords and arrows) were starting to surround them .Four seems untroubled, waving lightly even as he raises his hands.

"Newts or persimmons. Much better, my dear Cockatoo, much better."
The leader looked at his men, these strangers did dress oddly and whatever items they'd just pulled were unlike any he had seen. "It's a simple matter. Leave your valuables, and leave with your lives."
no subject
Then telepathically says to Four, "They expect us to say frogs. What human fairy tales have humans been turned into newts or persimmons?"
Ten quickly and without taking his eyes off of them picks up a stick with his free hand and presses his sonic screwdriver against that and lights that end of the stick on fire.
"Why don't you leave why you're all still human?"
no subject
"Honestly though, you aren't very terrifying, Doctor." He mentally chuckles and looks over at the armed men. Many of them have backed up a bit, looking between their leader and the supposed 'wizards'. Superstitions, perhaps the most powerful weapon of all. So long as no bluff is called. He holds off using his own screw driver, just in case these bandits decide that Ten is not a force to be messed with.
"...there's two of you and nearly twenty of us. You'll be dead before anythin'." Swords unsheath and a few bows are pulled tightly.
no subject
"Oh and you're more terrifying?" As Ten eyes around at the swordsman and the few bows - unblinking.
They called his bluff. Good thing Ten had a backup idea.
"Warned you."
"Cover your ears. NOW! Don't ask just do it!"
Which switches the sonic to send out a high pitch noise and leaves Four's back to quickly rotate in a circle to hit all of them.

Then, as the bard said, things began to get a bit crazy. He heard the warning in his head, covering his ears in time to block most of the sonic noise. He winced at what little of the sound did make it through. Eyeing his older self, he managed a small humph.
The bandits winced, dropping their swords to cover their own ears. A few arrows are sent out before their owners drop the bows. Four pushes his other self down, covering his own head as those arrows stick to the tree and grounds behind him.
Four grins and looks over at Ten, "That was a bit closer than intended."
no subject
That's when Ten feels himself being pushed down to the floor by his other self.
"Isn't it always?" Ten jokey remarks and promptly stands up and with a very authoritative voice and stare, "Let that be a lesson - don't mess with us." Then signals for his other self to run with him.
no subject
While the bandits recivered, Four followed Ten. Silence between them until they were bear to where they had separated. Resting against a tree he started to carefully pluck the arrow out of his hat. "That was quite a show you put out on there, old man. Very frightening. Sounded, almost real."
no subject
The comment from Four before echoes in Ten's mind; So that's why they're brown in regards to Ten's eyes and thinks about ears and leather, The Doctor, Ten had regenerated from. The one who came out of the Time War with gray eyes.
no subject
"It's nice to see I still remain clever as anything. Brilliant maybe." He flops down next Ten, limbs stretched everywhere, staring at the hole in his hat. "It was faithful, but I may need to replace this when we return. Perhaps take a day to myself, and this I me this body self, to find out just what is available." He prods Ten gently with the pointy tip of the arrow, "You may sulk about if you wish."
no subject
It's a good thing his younger self-enjoys that so much because that's how you'll die.
no subject
That was a different reaction. Four pushes himself up on his elbows, head tilted to the side as he simply stares at his older self. Perhaps there was some catastrophic event in his future that would drive him completely bonkers. "There's nothing horrible in the grass. This planet, this...this time is too peaceful for that." He gestures with his head behind him, "Those brutish oafs aside of course but they hardly count as something to remain paranoid about."
He sits up completely, pulling his knees up and resting his long arms against them. Pale eyes narrow as he looks at his older self, noticing the psychic block and frowing.
