AUGUST EVENT - UNICORN STAMPEDE

 photo tombstone-az_zpsg6csuwmz.jpg

Welcome to the Wild West! The year is 1881 in a hot, desolate corner of the Arizona Territory. Soon it will become the site of one of the most infamous gunfights in history. But today, it’s not the Cowboys or the Earps that have the town buzzing with gossip. It’s the strange events that happened this morning.

Thanks to the Head Librarian’s efforts, the unicorns that invaded Tombstone seem like nothing more than herd of wild horses that have stampeded through town and decided to graze nearby. For some, this is merely a curiosity that adds to the local chatter but other see it as a moneymaking opportunity. Those pretty, white horses don’t seem to belong to any of the locals and even if they did, there’s a few horse thieves in town that will be tempted by the herd outside of town.

Your team will enter through the blue white portal and step out into the desert mining town of Tombstone. It is rough, wild place with few rules. There’s a feud brewing between the law and the Cowboys but these events cannot be changed without altering the history of many worlds. Although patrons can interact with the citizens of Tombstone, they must be careful. Strangers and drifters are expected in town but behavior that is beyond what is expected of normal might find themselves facing an angry mob or locked up in the local jail.

Although some might be tempted to meet Wyatt Earp and friends, and may see the famous lawmen, the Librarians discourage the kind of interactions that could lead to prison time.

Find the unicorns and bring them back while ensuring that the locals don’t notice anything unusual in town. Remember that the creatures are intelligent and wary of those who are not pure. Not all of our patrons may be seen as friendly by the ‘horses’. Do not hurt them or be offended it they seem to object to your life choices. Make sure that none of Tombstone’s citizens keeps any of the wild horses and make sure that no one learns of what will happen at the OK Corral.

[OOC: This is for Team: Unicorn Stampede only. You will play out rounding up the unicorns, and returning them home. This is ONLY for team work and getting things done. If you have questions, you can call for Bob the Skull or The Cat to help you. Bob will be running communications. Once you finish the event (or at the same time if you will), patrons may use this time to use portals to enter Tombstone, go shopping, or interact with the locals as long as they do not upset the events that are destined to occur. But not in the team log.]

Update!  To help the event conclude, options are being provided to help organize the groups.  These can be tagged meme style to help give more structure to the tasks.  Current threads can be completed and new ones started.

Options

1.   Distracting the locals - This could be keeping any curious residents from noticing anything strange about the 'wild horses' or it could be keeping any potential horse thieves from stealing a pretty pony or two.

2.  Bait! or Unicorn Roundup - Remember that unicorns are picky about who they want to befriend.  They may not like some people in the group.  This could be hinder the roundup or be used to help get the unicorns back home.

3.  Safety First! - The unicorns might not be as tranquil as expected.  That means that there is a possibility of injury to a patron or one of the residents of Tombstone.  Please make sure that no one important gets injured and history is rewritten!

Bucky isn't sure he cares for this event. They were called Events, right? Things that were happening that a group of them had to fix? He wasn't actually very keen on working in a GROUP either. That never worked well for him. Top it all off and Steve Rogers was in this 'group' as well.

He had been avoiding the man for some time now.

He had been avoiding everyone for some time now, actually.

He here was though, through a portal, dressed all in black, his arm covered and his hand gloved. He stuck around the others that came through the portal with him, taking a head count for who all was here.

He was not taking lead on this. Not unless the others needed it, but he was scoping out who was here, how many of them, what they looked like and trying to judge what trouble they were going to find themselves in. That and the area. He doesn't remember much about this time period in history. A hole in his education, maybe, or just in his memory. It doesn't matter though. What matters is that the others that are here for the mission stay safe while they get a bunch of horned horses through a portal.

Barry had gotten so used to running around the library at half speed that when he first comes out of the portal he almost falls over. He manages to skid to a stop but his shoes are smoking as he does so. "Okay wow that was dumb," he mutters. He looks around grinning. "This is so cool," he says to his teammates, "unicorns in the Wild West it's like a movie."

Maybe it was some kind of cosmic joke that he was on the team that was hunting unicorns. Even if his years in the ice didn't count, his lack of - ah - experience was unusual. Steve was probably one of the only virgins in the Library.

Which everyone would find out about once they were close enough to the unicorns for them to notice him. If the legends about them were true. Considering that he knew a Norse god and he'd fought aliens, Steve figured that that the 'attracted to virgins' part of the story was true. It seemed to be the kind of thing that fate liked to throw at him.

It didn't really bother him but the teasing that would happen later would get tiring. But it'd be better than the deep freeze jokes he still heard around SHIELD.

Once he was sure that everyone had crossed through the portal safely, Steve broke away from the group long enough to talk to a few of the locals. When he looked properly interested and sympathetic, they were more willing to talk. Heading back to the others, he considered what he'd been told. "Most people said that they headed north but we're probably not going to be the only group after them."

Glorfindel was confused. Unicorns were shiny and exotic and he was shiny and exotic- they should love him! But instead every time he approached one to try to herd it with the group and help out, the unicorns didn't seem that inclined to listen or stay around him. He yelped as one started to look as if it was going to charge him. Sure he could take it down easily with his sword but it would be a pity to harm such a lovely creature.

He didn't know about the whole virgin thing but it figured that just after he finally got married would be the day he encountered unicorns.

"Come on! I just want to be your friend!" the Elf called after the last unicorn, huffing with frustration. He was already thinking about the bridle with bells and shiny things that he could get a unicorn mount but this plan wasn't working out as he envisioned.

"I think someone else may need to approach them, I don't think they like me," he finally admitted with a sigh, bowing his head.

After they all realized that the legends about unicorns were true, Steve knew what his role in this would be. It wasn't embarrassing that they were drawn to him. Mostly. He'd heard Bucky's comment to Tony and well... He couldn't help thinking of the blind dates and then of Peggy and...

At least waiting for 'the right partner' meant that he could help round up the unicorns. It might even help him when dealing with the elves since it seemed like their culture valued chastity. Think of the positive side of this instead of the regrets that had been holding him back for the past few years.

Striding toward the unicorns, Steve tried not to act concerned when a couple of the 'horses' broke away from the group to investigate him. One snorted and shook its head as if trying to decide what Steve was while the other seemed happy to have a virgin to visit with. A large, white nose nudged his shoulder while the other unicorn slowly stepped closer. It would be weeks before the team stopped teasing him about this...

[1: Taking down a Horse Thief]
Once they learned that the virgin thing was true, Bucky wasn't going to bother rounding them up. Not only was he not a virgin, he wasn't really 'pure' in any way HE could think of. Maybe by the fact that his memories were a MESS made him pure and clean slate in some ways was one thing, but he personally felt that the instant he got near the unicorns would scatter. And they had, a few times.

That lead him to helping with keeping the towns folk out of this mess. No sense in someone getting hurt. So he actually... took this as a mission, blending in better than one might think of a brainwashed man with a metal arm. You can sometimes find him chatting with a local, or 'chatting' as in letting them talk to him and him nodding to things.

Or you can watch him as he... ah, yes, he just hogtied a man to the ground and is now doing that swagger step thing after another guy, with a twist of his wrist he caught the man with a lasso, yanking him off his horse. The man had roped himself a black horse, it's coat shiny and bright, a Black Beauty of the wild ponies the locals were watching. The Unicorn itself was stamping in a fit, trying to get free.

It took off running the moment Bucky yanked the man off his horse. The man didn't stay down long though. He was a big guy, getting up fast and shucking off the rope, charging Bucky. It's going to come down to a good old fist fight, if anyone is interested in joining. Either that or taking care of the poor guy who is yelling from the ground where his hands and boots are tied together...

BAIT

Felicity was never the type of person to sit on her laurels and do nothing. She saw a problem, figured it out, and fixed it, granted Oliver or John were usually doing the fixing, but she had to improvise.

It wasn't like she hadn't been bait before, it's just that usually she knew she had back up. This time, not so much.

"Hey there," She said quietly. "You have such a pretty coat. How about you come with me?"

This was probably going to end badly, as she was far from a virgin.
