AUGUST EVENT - UNICORN STAMPEDE

 photo tombstone-az_zpsg6csuwmz.jpg

Welcome to the Wild West! The year is 1881 in a hot, desolate corner of the Arizona Territory. Soon it will become the site of one of the most infamous gunfights in history. But today, it’s not the Cowboys or the Earps that have the town buzzing with gossip. It’s the strange events that happened this morning.

Thanks to the Head Librarian’s efforts, the unicorns that invaded Tombstone seem like nothing more than herd of wild horses that have stampeded through town and decided to graze nearby. For some, this is merely a curiosity that adds to the local chatter but other see it as a moneymaking opportunity. Those pretty, white horses don’t seem to belong to any of the locals and even if they did, there’s a few horse thieves in town that will be tempted by the herd outside of town.

Your team will enter through the blue white portal and step out into the desert mining town of Tombstone. It is rough, wild place with few rules. There’s a feud brewing between the law and the Cowboys but these events cannot be changed without altering the history of many worlds. Although patrons can interact with the citizens of Tombstone, they must be careful. Strangers and drifters are expected in town but behavior that is beyond what is expected of normal might find themselves facing an angry mob or locked up in the local jail.

Although some might be tempted to meet Wyatt Earp and friends, and may see the famous lawmen, the Librarians discourage the kind of interactions that could lead to prison time.

Find the unicorns and bring them back while ensuring that the locals don’t notice anything unusual in town. Remember that the creatures are intelligent and wary of those who are not pure. Not all of our patrons may be seen as friendly by the ‘horses’. Do not hurt them or be offended it they seem to object to your life choices. Make sure that none of Tombstone’s citizens keeps any of the wild horses and make sure that no one learns of what will happen at the OK Corral.

[OOC: This is for Team: Unicorn Stampede only. You will play out rounding up the unicorns, and returning them home. This is ONLY for team work and getting things done. If you have questions, you can call for Bob the Skull or The Cat to help you. Bob will be running communications. Once you finish the event (or at the same time if you will), patrons may use this time to use portals to enter Tombstone, go shopping, or interact with the locals as long as they do not upset the events that are destined to occur. But not in the team log.]

Update!  To help the event conclude, options are being provided to help organize the groups.  These can be tagged meme style to help give more structure to the tasks.  Current threads can be completed and new ones started.

Options

1.   Distracting the locals - This could be keeping any curious residents from noticing anything strange about the 'wild horses' or it could be keeping any potential horse thieves from stealing a pretty pony or two.

2.  Bait! or Unicorn Roundup - Remember that unicorns are picky about who they want to befriend.  They may not like some people in the group.  This could be hinder the roundup or be used to help get the unicorns back home.

3.  Safety First! - The unicorns might not be as tranquil as expected.  That means that there is a possibility of injury to a patron or one of the residents of Tombstone.  Please make sure that no one important gets injured and history is rewritten!

After they all realized that the legends about unicorns were true, Steve knew what his role in this would be. It wasn't embarrassing that they were drawn to him. Mostly. He'd heard Bucky's comment to Tony and well... He couldn't help thinking of the blind dates and then of Peggy and...

At least waiting for 'the right partner' meant that he could help round up the unicorns. It might even help him when dealing with the elves since it seemed like their culture valued chastity. Think of the positive side of this instead of the regrets that had been holding him back for the past few years.

Striding toward the unicorns, Steve tried not to act concerned when a couple of the 'horses' broke away from the group to investigate him. One snorted and shook its head as if trying to decide what Steve was while the other seemed happy to have a virgin to visit with. A large, white nose nudged his shoulder while the other unicorn slowly stepped closer. It would be weeks before the team stopped teasing him about this...

Whoops, you heard that? If only he knew.

Bucky had, with some of the others, tried getting close and it never worked. The moment they figured out that the legend was real was the moment Bucky decided he needed to go do something else. Wrangling pretty ponies wasn't going to be his job in all this.

So he's been trying, for the most part, to keep towns folk away or happy, or, in one case, take down a couple of guys who were trying to rope themselves a pretty free horse that they had no idea was horned.

One thing is for sure, he was pretty good with riding horses. One of the thieves that he took down left him his horse (wasn't that nice of him?) So Bucky rode it around on the outskirts of where he saw Rogers. He sat, at a good distance, dressed all in black and with a hat on, 'bending' in. Look, he's good with his training. He can god damn well blend in if he needs too, metal hand and all.

Anyhow, he was hovering back a ways, watching the man that he wants to know, watching him as Unicorns started to get closer. He snorted, running his gloved metal hand over his face to hide... yeah, a smile.

For a few seconds, Steve didn't realize he was being watched. The 'horses' held his attention more than they probably should have but with two large, potentially angry unicorns close he didn't want to be distracted in case they decided they didn't like him. Which didn't seem to be a real danger once they sensed whatever told them that Steve was a virgin. One kept demanding that he rub its nose while the other crowded close like an eager puppy.

Once he was sure he wasn't going to get trampled, Steve began looking around. Automatically he checked where Tony was, nodding to him so that he knew not to worry. Then he noticed the rider dressed in black. His jaw almost dropped when he realized who it was. Horseback riding was not a skill Steve had expected. It reminded him of the silly games they'd played as kids.

The unicorns seemed content to follow him as long as he didn't get too close to someone that they didn't like... and didn't stop rubbing the friendly one's nose. Heading toward Bucky, he stopped a safe distance away and tried to ignore the way the unicorns kept trying to get him to pet them. "You didn't take your own advice. You said no black so we we didn't look like horse thieves."

Okay, perhaps ALL black was an over statement. He was in a black hat though, and his pants were a dark shade of grayish brown that looked more... black. the shirt was a button up off white, seen better days shirt, with a black vest, so, okay not ALL black but black enough. Who knows where he got the duds, but the red neckerchief around his neck to complete the local attire was a nice touch, right?

Seriously, don't ask who dressed him. Or how he knows how to ride a horse (this isn't his first horse at least, and he did remember how, for some reason, so that was nice). He actually looked more relaxed on the back of the horse then he does while standing somewhere.

As the Captain approached, Bucky watched him, but more watched the damned horned horses come with him, nudging and nuzzling and looking for virgin attention. At the mans comment he gave a single shoulder shrug. Do as I say not what I do? "Black is comfortable." He should leave it at that, but he continues with, "I already look like a horse bandit. I might as well go with it." Not that it's come across like that. He might not be picking up a name for himself here, but the locals he has been around are alright with him. Or so he thinks.

"You'd look shady if you dressed in black."

Dozens of questions ran through his mind but Steve knew if he asked, Bucky would probably disappear again. He'd pushed just enough while talking to him about the job. Asking about the riding skills would probably lead to something that neither one of them wanted to deal with. But Steve really couldn't imagine HYDRA teaching the Winter Soldier to ride for a mission. Maybe Bucky was like Steve, able to learn physical tasks quickly and with only minimal training.

"Didn't know colors could be comfortable. I'll remind you of that next time you make comments about my spangles." Steve had managed to find colors that blended into the desert, browns and tan and a white hat as a joke. Since Bucky had been so adamant about no black, Steve figured that meant he had to wear the usual symbol of the western hero.

Rolling his eyes, he gently pushed aside an overly friendly unicorn. "You don't look like a horse bandit." He had the feeling that most horse thieves weren't as well dressed as anyone in their group. Patting one of the unicorn's neck, he grinned at Bucky. "Why would I look shady in black?"
overcomebywinter: (It's all in the arm)

[personal profile] overcomebywinter 2015-08-28 09:12 pm (UTC)(link)
He's done it before, and adapted well enough. He might not remember the mission but muscle memory was one hell of a thing. Besides, he picked things up fast. He was sure the man would also, if he took someones horse for a ride.

"Your spangles are loud and are in no way comfortable." he said with no emotion, just leaning on the horn of the saddle and watching the man and the horned beasts. "That shield is a big target, so is the suit." At least in black he can hide better. This is logic, Rogers.

the horses were so friendly to Steve. It was interesting. So far he himself just scared everything away by existing. And he wasn't 'well' dressed as the clothing was 'old' looking, but he and the rest of them were all a bit better looking them the poor around here. Someone called him a city slicker at one point.

"Close enough." To looking like a bandit. H let the horse he was riding step closer to Rogers and the unicorns, but kept trying to tug him back, so not to scare them. "You have a friendly face. Black wouldn't work for you. The horses ruin the image too. You have them here. Why not lead them to the exit."

Draping an arm over the back of one of the unicorns, he gave Bucky the grin that always drove his friend crazy. The 'yes I'm going to do something stupid and no you're not going to stop me' one that usually got Steve swatted. "You sure? Things didn't go well for me when I quit wearing the red, white, and blue."

That was an understatement but Steve wasn't going to bring up being Bucky's target or HYDRA. "The shield is an antique. One of a kind." And one of the few things he had left of the past. Even if it was a target, he wasn't going to put it aside.

"There goes all my hopes of being a ninja." Shrugging, Steve moved away from the unicorn. Or tried to. It followed him like an eager puppy. So did a few others. That could be helpful if some of them didn't decide they wanted to stay in Arizona. "I was waiting for someone to keep them from trying to wander away while I led them back."

He didn't react too visibly to the look on the mans face, but there was a twitch of his head, just a bit to the side, and one eye squinted just a smidge, as if his brain just was hit with something and he wasn't sure what it was. Reaching his gloved metal hand up he used it to shift the beaten black hat just a bit lower on his forehead. This man and his damn... everything. Memories and things. "Do things go well for you ever?"

As Rogers started to move away from the unicorns and they moved with him, Bucky shifted in the saddle, making his horse move, slowly, along with them, though he kept the distance still. "The shields wielder seems to be a one of a kind antique as well." That... that was said with a bit more of the old Bucky tone. A bit of hidden snark. The Asset looked away in mild annoyance at himself, fidgeting with the hat again and frowning.

He glanced away, looking around the flats for the black unicorn he'd ran into before. He'd gotten this horse while helping the black one. He hadn't seen another like it and wondered if someone got it or if it was else where. He glanced back to Rogers, brow raising.

"Might be smarter to get another... pure... human to help you. If I get too close they might freak out and take off your head." Or shove a horn through someone. Notice how he's sticking around anyhow. Willing to help.
legacyofiron: (Gotta be kidding me)

Tony is not happy XD

Oh, he'd been joking. He didn't honestly think that the virgin shtick was real. Then there they were. Gathering around Steve like he was made of the primest alpha alpha. Furrowing his brow, he watched the horses nuzzle him... The fact he knew WHY they were interested honestly made him extraordinarily uncomfortable.

Which was why he dared to try and weed his way around the horses and escape the sudden peek of interest in a few other horses. Unicorns... right. Snorting indignantly, he rose up on his toes to look at Steve over one of the tall backs. "Steve... I see you have new friends... if you stay still... I don't think we're going to make in progress..."

One of the unicorns glared at him, and he glared right back. "What are you looking at perverted equine?"

Poor Tony. He's not the only one in the Steve fanclub now

[personal profile] likeagerbil 2015-08-26 11:46 pm (UTC)(link)
Steve wasn't paying attention to his team as much as he normally would. Making sure that he wasn't attacked or trampled had been his priority once he realized that the unicorns were interested in him. He wanted the others safe but he couldn't do anything to protect them if the unicorns decided to attack him. Not that it seemed likely with how much they seemed to like him.

They acted more like puppies than what Steve assumed how horses would act. A few of them bumped into him, causing him to stumble a few steps but other than that they were careful to make sure that he wasn't hurt by them.

Looking past one of the overly friendly unicorns, he flushed slightly when he saw Tony. The Avengers had assumed he was a inexperienced but Steve had never really commented on it. What he had and hadn't done with Peggy was no one's business but theirs. "I'll start moving. I just wanted to make sure they weren't going to be aggressive before I tried herding them in the right direction."

Fighting back a smile at Tony's reaction to the cranky unicorn, he managed to keep his expression basically Cap-like. Slowly he started walking in the direction they needed the 'horses' to go, relieved when they started to follow. "They're not that bad, Tony. It's not their fault they're only drawn to some traits."

"What? You mean the purer than snow aspect? The unsullied? You are adorable." Smirking over at Steve, he stopped to send another Unicorn a glare that seemed intent on nuzzling more places than Steve's chest or neck. What was WRONG with these things? "Hey! Watch where you put that nose you lecherous pony."

In all his life, he did not expect to be yelling jokes about getting heads out of the gutter to unicorns. He looked at the one next to him and frowned. "What are you looking at? Don't tell me you fart rainbows, too." The horse bit at him and snorted before walking away. And yes... the jerk flicked his tail just in time to hit him in the face with it. "Punk."

Rolling his eyes, he called out. "They're like nasty old men... or women!" Another tail hit his face. Yeah. He normally wouldn't get so angry about this nonsense, but it really seemed to be getting under his skin.
likeagerbil: (Cap Does not Approve)

[personal profile] likeagerbil 2015-08-27 12:24 am (UTC)(link)
"I am not adorable." That would sound better if he sounded more like Cap than Steve but it was difficult to feel like Captain America while surrounded by creatures that looked like they were from a kid's cartoon show. Having Tony teasing him about the unicorns made it even more difficult to sound serious. Or, more correctly, his boyfriend teasing him about it.

Tony wasn't going to freak over this... right? Morals might have changed while Steve was in the ice but there wasn't anything wrong with still being a virgin.

It wasn't any different than the Howling Commandos teasing him about his inexperience. There was no reason to worry about it. "They're not doing anything wrong." Well, most of them weren't. Tony might be right about one or two of them being lecherous.

As he continued guiding the unicorns, he gave Tony an innocent look. "You mean like the old ladies and men that you leave me with at those charity parties? The unicorns are more polite than your guests."
legacyofiron: (There you stood)

[personal profile] legacyofiron 2015-08-28 01:58 am (UTC)(link)
"Oh, you're perfectly adorable. Especially when you scowl like that." He started to smirk then laughed softly. Only he could break when teasing Steve Rogers. So what if he had a ridiculous soft spot for the blonde. Could anyone really blame him for that?

Not that he liked the idea of what those Unicorns were doing. "Steve. Darling. They are sniffing in places their muzzles should not be. They steal pretty little virgins with their lies and deceit. Do not listen to their lies... DO NOT DRINK THE KOOL-AID." He stressed the last part dramatically... and that was when a hoove stomped down on his foot.

A string of indignant curses left him as he hissed sharply. "You did that on purpose you... you cradle robbing horse! I don't care if he is technically insanely old."

Then he stopped and gave Steve the strangest wide eyed look. "Wait... were the old people copping feels on you? Because I might have to kill them... humanely.. but kill nonetheless."
likeagerbil: (Don't know if I can do this)

[personal profile] likeagerbil 2015-08-28 02:12 am (UTC)(link)
"Captain America is not supposed to be adorable." But Tony really didn't seem him as Cap unless they were on a mission and even then it wasn't constant. "I might have been adorable when I was tiny but not now." He would have groused over it worse back then but it would have fit more than it did when he was over six feet tall.

Darling? Tony normally used nicknames and some of them might have slipped into pet name territory but that was new. That was... what Tony had promised when Steve had asked about coming home from the war. For a few seconds he ignored the unicorns and their questionable attention to give Tony a brilliant smile. "I'd like it if you called me that again later." The others could decide if he meant 'adorable' or 'darling'.

"I'm not a silly little virgin to be stolen and there's no Kool-Aid here." He accompanied the comment with a bewildered look that was completely fake. Steve knew what the reference meant but he could see if Tony figured that out.

When Tony made that pained noise, Steve glared at the offending unicorn. "You will not hurt him." Either the unicorns wanted to keep the virgin happy or his Cap voice worked on them too. The unicorn glared at Tony but moved away. The others seemed to be willing to keep a wary distance from Tony so Steve began to relax as he lead them toward the portal.

"Not just the old people. They were the polite ones. They just wanted a little thrill for old times' sake. The others..." There was a reason why he usually was the wallflower at those parties. It was harder for people to grope him if he was in the background.
