AUGUST EVENT - BAMBI SQUAD

It is a warm, fall day in one of the most beautiful areas of the North American Wilderness. Yellowstone National Park is renowned for its natural wonders and the majestic creatures that live on its protected lands. Unfortunately some of the wildlife that has found its way into Yellowstone are not native to the Park.

While exploring the Forest, Bambi, Thumper, and their woodland friends scampered into a new area to play. Excited by the chance to explore the group has decided to see what friends and adventures they can find. Friend Owl flies beside them, hooting warnings at the group. “These woods are not safe,” he warns, but the youngsters are too excited to listen.

Catching sight of a strange looking deer, Bambi and Faline bound off to find out why his antlers look different than the Great Prince of the Forest’s. Thumper and his bunny friends hop off to find a tasty bit of clover to nibble on. At first Flower stays near Friend Owl but soon he’s just as curious as the rest, exploring fallen logs and looking for potential dens.

While the group rambles and plays, the other creatures in the park are slowly beginning to notice the newcomers. The days are growing shorter and the weather is turning colder. It is time to prepare for winter and these young creatures might make a tasty meal. Along with the potentially dangerous wildlife to avoid, there are also tourists and park rangers to evade.

The Head Librarian has cloaked the woodland creatures so that they seem like the animals that the park rangers and tourists would expect but there are limits to these disguises. If an unsuspecting visitor chanced upon the animals, they might hear something unexpected. The Librarians would prefer that none of the locals have a conversation with Thumper but he is a chatty rabbit.

Your team will enter through the blue white portal and step out into one of the meadows in Yellowstone Park. Find the woodland creatures before they encounter a danger they cannot escape … catch them. Bring them back to safety and make sure that nothing or no one harms them.

[OOC: This is for Team: Bambi Squad only. You will play out tracking our woodland friends, collecting Bambi and the other creatures from the Forest, and returning them home. This is ONLY for team work and getting things done. If you have questions, you can call for Bob the Skull or The Cat to help you. Bob will be running communications. Once you finish the event (or at the same time if you will), patrons may use this time to use portals to enter Modern day Yellowstone National Park and visit the tourist areas, shops, lodges, and restaurants in a private log. But not in the team log.]

Update!  To help the event conclude, options are being provided to help organize the groups.  These can be tagged meme style to help give more structure to the tasks.  Current threads can be completed and new ones started.

Options

1.  Finding Bambi and Faline!  Is it really that easy to tell two talking deer from the rest of the herd?  Now you get to find out!

2.  Wrangling the Woodland Friends!  Thumper, Flower, Friend Owl need to be gathered up so that they can return home.  Be careful that you don't frighten them away!

3.  Avoiding the Locals!  Please keep the park rangers and tourists from noticing the talking animals.  That's not as easy to explain away as some might think.

4.  Fending off the Wildlife!  Yellowstone has its share of carnivores.  Make sure the wolves, cougars, and other predators don't find a tasty storybook snack.

Chasing after deer wasn't something that Alec assumed he'd be especially good at. Demons were something he knew how to hunt but deer were completely foreign to him. Now trying to convince small, cranky animals to trust him... that was a skill that he had. Or he had one that could possibly translate to a new situation. After years of dealing with the Institute's cat, Church, without losing a finger or two had taught him how to be non-threatening and when to judge when an animal was going to bite. So why not try to see if he could coax Thumper and the others to trust him so that he could take them back to their nice, quiet forest?

Have fun with this XD

Magnus for the most part, stepped lightly and looked mostly unaffected. Of course, he had some not so great memories of a monkey in the rainforest, but these were rabbits and skunks... how bad could be it? Ha. He should know better than to ask that.

Because he decided to stray from Alec when he finally got a spell to pick up on foreign energy that wasn't theirs nor the world they were in. So... he went toward it while keeping Alec in his peripheral. No point telling him if he didn't know if he was right or not.

But there the little rodent was. Black and white in all his glory. Of course, he knew that the little animated skunk was not going to run to him... but when he leaned down to pick him up? He got the tail end and a huge spray to the face. To his credit, he didn't let go as the little monster clawed and squirmed in his hands... the little demon even ripped his sleeves and started gnawing on his wrist. "Keep it up you little monstrosity and I will change you into a tortoise. A slow, baby tortoise that can't get away."

Neither one of them was really in their element. Alec was a city boy and despite the kind of places that Magnus had lived in over the past few centuries, he didn't seem the type that liked to getting too close to nature. And of course, there was that story about the monkey in the rain forest...

But this was different. They couldn't get into too much trouble in Yellowstone chasing Thumper and Flower.

Alec should have known he couldn't make that kind of assumption. Trouble followed Magnus almost as much as it followed Jace. Which meant he was ready for something to happen, the staff he carried within easy reach. Too bad that something didn't include skunk attacks.

Eyes watering at the smell, Alec coughed and tried to catch his breath. If it was bad for him... Turning around he saw Flower gnawing on Magnus and knew that wasn't going to work. Magnus would only scare the skunk more. "Hey." He kept his tone soft as he dropped the staff so he could look less threatening. "It's okay. He's not going to turn you into a tortoise."

He moved closer, telling himself that skunks weren't as dangerous a Church. Gently catching the skunk, he began prying Flower away from Magnus. "You don't need to bite him. He's just as afraid of you as you're afraid of him."

Magnus' face was twisted in distaste. Snarling under his breath, he wondered what magic he could possibly use to get rid of the smell. No.. he would just have to magic tomato juice to pour over his head. Great. That just... no.

Huffing, he arched a brow at his lover and then rolled his eyes. "I'm not afraid of him... I would like to make him into a hat at the moment." Grumbling under his breath, he relinquished the little hell cat to Alec. "Careful... he likes to share his love of foul smells with the world."

Eyeing the teeth marks on his skin and clothes, he sighed. "Great. I smell bad and look like I went toe to toe with a Honey Badger."

"Don't listen to him. No one is going to make you into a hat." He gave his boyfriend a pleading look before he finally untangled Flower from Magnus. "You surprised him. That's all. You don't have to be afraid of us."

He kept talking softly as he started lightly rubbing behind the skunk's ears. It worked on Church so why not try it on Flower? "He doesn't like foul smells. He liked flowers, remember?"

Looking over at the claw and fang marks, he let out a sigh when he realized none of them looked deep. "I'll take care of the bites after we send him back home." The smell... how did someone get skunk smell off? That wasn't something covered in the Codex.

Snorting, he wisely didn't comment on that and looked at him in irritation. "Yes well, he didn't respond too well either to his rescuer."

Shaking off his hands, the motion was literally useless. Even if he got the saliva off of his hand from where the animal gnawed on him, the smell couldn't be shook off. Great.

And then Alec had to look all cozy loving on the little monstrosity. Sending a sharp look at the little animated... thing... he nodded once. "Let's deposit the little creature back home and see if we can find his long eared friend or... something." Lifting his eyes back to Alec's and he gave his love props for not moving as far away from him as possible.

"He doesn't know he needs to be rescued." Giving Flower another scritch behind the ears, Alec was sure that the skunk wouldn't cause any more problems. Unless Magnus did try to turn Flower into a hat. "He thinks humans are dangerous." Not that either one of them were completely human but he doubted that Flower would understand that.

Knowing that Magnus would still be considering turning the skunk into an accessory, he carefully held Flower away from him before moving close enough to Magnus to kiss his jaw. "Good idea. I don't know how long I can keep calm."

He started heading toward the portal while considering how they were going to get Magnus to smell less skunk-like. "Do you know a spell that can reverse that?"

Sighing dramatically, he fought the urge to level a nasty glare at the black and white creature and chose to simmer in his awful smell. It really sucked that the little brat could understand them more than likely... so he couldn't make the comments he wanted to make. "Yeah well... the sooner he gets home the better."

He might have groused longer, but when Alec kissed his chin, he allowed himself a small smile. "Only you would kiss someone that smelled this bad, Alexander."

Shaking his head, he followed at a slower pace behind the hunter. "No. I can get rid of the clothes... but I am not getting rid of skin and hair."

Alec began scratching Flower under his chin while keeping his expression carefully neutral. He felt bad that Magnus had been sprayed but his grumbling was cute in a way, reminding him of some of the stories in Magnus' memoirs.

"You're the only one I want to kiss." Nothing would change that, even if he did wrinkle his nose slightly at being so close to the smell. "It's not that bad." At least to him it wasn't. Others might want to stay away from Magnus.

"Can you - uh - borrow things from this reality like you could if you were at our apartment?" Borrowing was better than stealing. At least saying it was better even if whatever Magnus took wasn't returned. "If you can, we can try to wash the scent off."

"Hm.. you do cut open some of the foulest creatures known to exist." That had to help. In fact, he didn't envy the messes that hunters ended up in all the time. It made him a little nauseous thinking about it. Not that he had a weak stomach at all.

Sighing dramatically, he thought about the question. "I certainly plan to try. I am not walking around like this until the clothes are scent free. Just got to figure out what to put on me to get the smell out." He'd likely ask Bob. He didn't know if tomato juice worked or if it was only a myth to begin with.

"I don't think just soap and water will cut it. But we'll figure it out. Let's... get him home first."

Alec made a face at the reminder. That wasn't something that he'd ever miss. He might be a good hunter but that didn't mean he liked it. "I think Jace chose the type of demon to hunt by how bad they smelled."

His siblings he did miss but not enough to leave. The Library was right place for him even if he wished Izzy and Jace would be asked to join them. "We used to mix up something that got rid of demon smell after the bad hunts. If the tomato juice doesn't work, you can try that."

Stealing another kiss, Alec grinned at his boyfriend. "I'll find you new clothes just in case. I'll even buy something that isn't black," Alec promised. They'd visited enough tourist spots for Alec to know Yellowstone had to have someplace that sold souvenirs. "We probably should stock up on some things anyway."

Flower seemed oblivious to them, curling up against Alec's chest to take a nap. He made sure not to jostle the skunk as they headed for the portal. For some reason, the word 'home' made him smile. "It is home, isn't it?"
