AUGUST EVENT - BAMBI SQUAD

It is a warm, fall day in one of the most beautiful areas of the North American Wilderness. Yellowstone National Park is renowned for its natural wonders and the majestic creatures that live on its protected lands. Unfortunately some of the wildlife that has found its way into Yellowstone are not native to the Park.

While exploring the Forest, Bambi, Thumper, and their woodland friends scampered into a new area to play. Excited by the chance to explore the group has decided to see what friends and adventures they can find. Friend Owl flies beside them, hooting warnings at the group. “These woods are not safe,” he warns, but the youngsters are too excited to listen.

Catching sight of a strange looking deer, Bambi and Faline bound off to find out why his antlers look different than the Great Prince of the Forest’s. Thumper and his bunny friends hop off to find a tasty bit of clover to nibble on. At first Flower stays near Friend Owl but soon he’s just as curious as the rest, exploring fallen logs and looking for potential dens.

While the group rambles and plays, the other creatures in the park are slowly beginning to notice the newcomers. The days are growing shorter and the weather is turning colder. It is time to prepare for winter and these young creatures might make a tasty meal. Along with the potentially dangerous wildlife to avoid, there are also tourists and park rangers to evade.

The Head Librarian has cloaked the woodland creatures so that they seem like the animals that the park rangers and tourists would expect but there are limits to these disguises. If an unsuspecting visitor chanced upon the animals, they might hear something unexpected. The Librarians would prefer that none of the locals have a conversation with Thumper but he is a chatty rabbit.

Your team will enter through the blue white portal and step out into one of the meadows in Yellowstone Park. Find the woodland creatures before they encounter a danger they cannot escape … catch them. Bring them back to safety and make sure that nothing or no one harms them.

[OOC: This is for Team: Bambi Squad only. You will play out tracking our woodland friends, collecting Bambi and the other creatures from the Forest, and returning them home. This is ONLY for team work and getting things done. If you have questions, you can call for Bob the Skull or The Cat to help you. Bob will be running communications. Once you finish the event (or at the same time if you will), patrons may use this time to use portals to enter Modern day Yellowstone National Park and visit the tourist areas, shops, lodges, and restaurants in a private log. But not in the team log.]

Update!  To help the event conclude, options are being provided to help organize the groups.  These can be tagged meme style to help give more structure to the tasks.  Current threads can be completed and new ones started.

Options

1.  Finding Bambi and Faline!  Is it really that easy to tell two talking deer from the rest of the herd?  Now you get to find out!

2.  Wrangling the Woodland Friends!  Thumper, Flower, Friend Owl need to be gathered up so that they can return home.  Be careful that you don't frighten them away!

3.  Avoiding the Locals!  Please keep the park rangers and tourists from noticing the talking animals.  That's not as easy to explain away as some might think.

4.  Fending off the Wildlife!  Yellowstone has its share of carnivores.  Make sure the wolves, cougars, and other predators don't find a tasty storybook snack.

"He doesn't know he needs to be rescued." Giving Flower another scritch behind the ears, Alec was sure that the skunk wouldn't cause any more problems. Unless Magnus did try to turn Flower into a hat. "He thinks humans are dangerous." Not that either one of them were completely human but he doubted that Flower would understand that.

Knowing that Magnus would still be considering turning the skunk into an accessory, he carefully held Flower away from him before moving close enough to Magnus to kiss his jaw. "Good idea. I don't know how long I can keep calm."

He started heading toward the portal while considering how they were going to get Magnus to smell less skunk-like. "Do you know a spell that can reverse that?"

Sighing dramatically, he fought the urge to level a nasty glare at the black and white creature and chose to simmer in his awful smell. It really sucked that the little brat could understand them more than likely... so he couldn't make the comments he wanted to make. "Yeah well... the sooner he gets home the better."

He might have groused longer, but when Alec kissed his chin, he allowed himself a small smile. "Only you would kiss someone that smelled this bad, Alexander."

Shaking his head, he followed at a slower pace behind the hunter. "No. I can get rid of the clothes... but I am not getting rid of skin and hair."

Alec began scratching Flower under his chin while keeping his expression carefully neutral. He felt bad that Magnus had been sprayed but his grumbling was cute in a way, reminding him of some of the stories in Magnus' memoirs.

"You're the only one I want to kiss." Nothing would change that, even if he did wrinkle his nose slightly at being so close to the smell. "It's not that bad." At least to him it wasn't. Others might want to stay away from Magnus.

"Can you - uh - borrow things from this reality like you could if you were at our apartment?" Borrowing was better than stealing. At least saying it was better even if whatever Magnus took wasn't returned. "If you can, we can try to wash the scent off."

"Hm.. you do cut open some of the foulest creatures known to exist." That had to help. In fact, he didn't envy the messes that hunters ended up in all the time. It made him a little nauseous thinking about it. Not that he had a weak stomach at all.

Sighing dramatically, he thought about the question. "I certainly plan to try. I am not walking around like this until the clothes are scent free. Just got to figure out what to put on me to get the smell out." He'd likely ask Bob. He didn't know if tomato juice worked or if it was only a myth to begin with.

"I don't think just soap and water will cut it. But we'll figure it out. Let's... get him home first."

Alec made a face at the reminder. That wasn't something that he'd ever miss. He might be a good hunter but that didn't mean he liked it. "I think Jace chose the type of demon to hunt by how bad they smelled."

His siblings he did miss but not enough to leave. The Library was right place for him even if he wished Izzy and Jace would be asked to join them. "We used to mix up something that got rid of demon smell after the bad hunts. If the tomato juice doesn't work, you can try that."

Stealing another kiss, Alec grinned at his boyfriend. "I'll find you new clothes just in case. I'll even buy something that isn't black," Alec promised. They'd visited enough tourist spots for Alec to know Yellowstone had to have someplace that sold souvenirs. "We probably should stock up on some things anyway."

Flower seemed oblivious to them, curling up against Alec's chest to take a nap. He made sure not to jostle the skunk as they headed for the portal. For some reason, the word 'home' made him smile. "It is home, isn't it?"
