Log Title--Failed Ritual...[Closed]
Log Title Failed Ritual...[Closed]
Characters: Sunset Shimmer, (Future)Trunks Briefs
When: Orientation event, Central Library
Where: The world of Fatal Frame 2: Crimson Butterfly
Summary: Two new residents in the Library have ventured into a book, and found more than they expected. Vengeful ghosts, curses to be broken, and a town they can not leave.
Warnings: Angst. Angst. Angst. Mentions of violence and Death.
There are whispers. Voices of children, of adults, screams of pain and echoes of sorrow and tears. It's cold the closer he got to the book. The cover is tattered red leather, a beautiful embossed red butterfly adorning its spine. When he isn't looking directly at it, the wings seemed to move pulling his attention back to it.
Curiosity made him reach out, if only to affirm what his eyes thought they saw. But the moment his fingers brush the book, a flood of red luminescent red butterflies erupt from the book and circle around the warrior. "The ceremony... it must be completed..." The world is dark. A decrepit and falling apart village in Japan came into view. It looked empty for all intents and purposes, but the whispers... the whispers will never stop.
At their feet is a camera. Old. Antique. "Pick it up. It's the only way you will defeat those that linger here as vengeful spirits. Keep them away from the portal. Ease the spirits of the dead. But be careful... where you can't touch a ghost, the ghosts can hurt you."

"That must be it. I'm sure of it. All the pain is flowing into there, but it's stoppered up, like some kind of whirlpool with no bottom."
"Don't look in it, whatever you do," said Sunset. "I'm sure that won't end well."

Avoid the pit, avoid looking into it--and dodge the wraith while killing it with the camera. Simple, right? As soon as the wraith started moving, Trunks was too. Manifesting just enough ki around him to make himself look 'tasty', so to speak. "Over here!" Bait to keep it away from Sunset, so they could get rid of it once and for all with the camera. After that, they could deal with the Abyss.

"Got it!"

Things didn't get any easier as the ground started shaking and rocking with tremors. Anguished wails came from the Abyss, echoing through the caverns and the whole area radiated darkness-pain-sadness-anger-madness. The wraith was one of many voices amidst this noise, and when Sunset got her final 'shot' with the camera it was almost anticlimactic.
Trunks skidded to a halt near her, watching as the agonized spirit faded into the ground, the wails and noise suddenly gone and the earth still once more. "Think that was it?" He asked cautiously, before both of their attentions would be caught by a crimson-butterly that came into view over the abyss. At first it was one lone butterfly, then a dozen, then more.

Sunset tucked the camera under her arm before she held out her hand. "I think it's time. Grab my hand, lets do this and get out of here."
She would consciously invoke her power, as her body shimmered with the same warm red flame as she held out her hand for Trunks to take.
Once that happened, a power welled inside as she drew on her memories. Growing up angry and spoiled, the anger that she lashed out at her mentor. The resentment and frustration, the bullying, the pain she inflicted on others, all of it.
detailed, b/c the channel'd give her memories too right?
Power flowing through him, as long-held rage and anger surged as well and channeled into Sunset Shimmer. Flashes of memories flowing through the link to her.
Tension and anxiety, the world under constant threat of attack by ruthless killers. Too powerful for anyone to fight, as they'd killed the strongest heroes on the planet already. Sadness and determination, radiating and associated with a woman with light blue hair (mother!), and even stronger from an older teen with short black spikey-hair (master Gohan!). Fury and anger at the injustice overlay memories of walking through streets filled with fresh rubble, and recently dead bodies. Rapid-fire memories of nerves and determination to stop this, to protect, and rage and fury at his inability to do so. Humiliation and that same older teen now bearing a scar on the left side of his face and without one arm.
Cold rain and desperation overlay a scene of tragedy, rubble littering streets torn up amid half-fallen buildings. Disbelief, soaked through the skin as he walked towards body lying face down, un-moving on the asphalt in a puddle. Realization of how tortured his master had been, and now dead--and the rain still felt cold.
All remembered clearly, as Trunks called it up. The despair, the anger, the loss and pain of it all welling inside him just as it did back then. Overwhelmingly strong and screaming from his very soul, before becoming focused. A low growl of sound came from Trunks besides Sunset, his grip on her hand tightened dangerously. The ki flaring around him in an aura continued building, and turned gold and overwhelmed him. Eyes turning green, and hair spiking up golden-blonde in an unseen wind, and for all that he radiated rage-pain-anger-rage-hurt-anger-pain-rage, it was focused into a diamond core of strength.
Green-eyes flicked to Sunset, and a nod, as he channeled it to Sunset to feed to the abyss.
yep
Re: yep
Low growls of sound and rumbles as the earth shook and trembled. Ghastly wails of anguish and frustration. A vision seen briefly of a young girl in a white kimono stained with blood, laughing. Soft and whispery words ("...are you leaving me again?") underlay that mocking laughter.
Which just triggered Trunks more, as Sunset felt through the link. Memories--cold inhuman blue eyes in faces too humanly perfect. Mocking him, taunting, laughing with cruel smiles that cared for nothing save their own amusement. A word associated with the rage and hatred of these beings floated to her--Androids.
"Not again." Frustration riddled his voice, determination radiating under the core of rage that acted as fuel for Sunset as she channeled. Crimson Butterflies swirled around, engulfing the ghostly figure in the kimono as the earth quaked dangerously around them.
Re: yep
Her own emotions danced on a edge as well, as she pulled him towards the exit. "Trunks, c'mon!"
Re: yep
Not so easy to close floodgates that had been opened, and the super saiyan state was always more reckless, more ruthless. Thankfully he was his mother's son, as well as his father's...
Letting the rage and power fade, calm and breathing-especially as Sunset tugged at him. "Time to leave..." turning, releasing her hand. "I'm right behind you. Get above ground!"
Re: yep
Once outside, she crossed the border of the doorway with a mighty crash, and she continued down the path, hoping Trunks is behind her.

Things weren't much more peaceful outside of the house, shocks and grumbles coming from the ground and making for treacherous footing. The bridge hadn't seemed that sturdy to begin with, and in the aftershocks the wood was buckling. "Hold on." By now, she should hopefully be used to the sudden change from ground to air as Trunks looped an arm under her shoulder and jumped. No time to worry about if ki attracted spirits, as the bigger problem was the Abyss' reaction.
Heading across the lake, over the village and towards the forest where they'd arrived.

"You okay?" she asked.

Looking around, then orienting so that hopefully she'd see what he had. There were two main rivers that lead to and from the lake. "I say we try following the river, and see if we can get out of here." Pointing at the southwestern end of the lake, away from where they'd come from the house.
"Are you okay?"
no subject
"You've got a grip. I don't think my hands are damaged other than major bruises. It'll be a while before I heal up."
no subject
"I had no way to warn you, either." Head down, cautiously landing when it seemed like they might be far enough away. The trees and ground weren't shaking or trembling nearly so much being closer to where they'd been pulled in. "I'm sorry."
no subject
Her stomach growled as she pressed her hand against it. "I think, we need to go, and then we'll get something to eat. Sound good? We both need a good meal."
no subject
But they couldn't do anything other than what they'd done, for now. "We can ask the Librarian's about it." Walking cautiously, following the river to their left as they headed away from the village. It wasn't too many more meters before a swirl of white butterflies started to circle around them.
Brightening, brightening, and then they were in the Library once more. Trunks held a tattered red leather book, with an embossed butterfly on the cover. It was quiet, seeming to be nothing but a book.

And once they were out, Sunset nodded. "It's their story. They have the true power to change it."
no subject
"We should probably check in, or something, with them anyways. Find out about food, and maybe something for your hand." Although that he might be able to do something about now, as he searched his jacket pocket.
"Although I did bring this back from inside..." Offering her a small tin of medicine they'd found in the village. "Might help some, since it kept me going while we were stuck there."
no subject
"At least then, we can rest up."
