Ten doesn't say anything on the walk back but does check to make sure himself is still there. The least that The Doctor is do is help protect this younger self. This innocent version of himself and Ten needs this version of himself to keep Ten from going too far.

The Doctor pauses when he comes across a rose bush and in his mind eyes has flashes of Rose almost being sucked away into the void and then hitting the wall with her on the other side in another dimension.

Dropping to his knees is quiet for a moment as if some kind of grief or guilt and then very careful - smells the rose flower that seems to be the perfect one in the batch to Ten and then tenderly touches the rose flower on the side.

And forgets about his other self that is traveling with Ten.
