"Creatures?" Amery repeated. "What sort of creatures?" He hadn't seen very much to worry about, but then he'd been keeping mostly to himself since he'd gotten here, and this was the first time he'd spoken to someone else in a long time. Maybe the isolation had been contributing to his nightmares, as well, as much as he enjoyed being on his own some times.

"Clearly." No, wait, maybe that had come out a little more rude than he'd intended. "Sorry." He had the grace to apologize, at least. "I have never met you before. I'm sure I would remember it."
