Adventures with grumpy cat! I mean Bones...
Who: Leonard McCoy and You? [open]
What: March Event Catch All!
When: At some point early on in the event before any results of the negotiations.
Where: Derrynane or the Fae
Warnings: Probably bad language and grumpiness. Embarrassment for everyone? Probably a strong possibility.
Notes: I will list off a few possible starters, but you are free to tag and indicate a different scenario if you want him to get drug into something else. <3
Scenario: Cold Iron
The strange world of the fairies really felt more like a damn dream on an acid trip. Part of him wondered if this place was the makings of something like Carroll saw when he wrote Alice in Wonderland. Cause this place sure seemed more out of sorts and strange than anything he’d ever seen before. The colors were just an eyesore they were so bright and off. Some trees even glowed a sickly purple and the sky seemed almost pink at times.
But one thing that was damn hard to miss, was how much the scenery changed as they drew closer to the objects that weren’t supposed to be there. Because slowly, the landscape shifted to something darker, colder… like the color was stripped right out of it. “I’d say we needed a damn metal detector, but the way things just seem to suddenly start dyin’ the closer you get is a dead giveaway.” It was just the moments between finding this kind of thing.
Oddly enough it reminded him a bit of the darkness in some of the corners of the Library now that he thought about it. “See anything yet?”
Scenario: Elemental Stones
What he hated most about Derrynane, Ireland wasn’t the every present darkness. It wasn’t even the desolate landscape of an empty ghost town left behind by the abduction of all the people. No, it was the rain. The nonstop heavy downpour that even made the long coat he was handed before stepping through the portal feel soaked through. So much for repelling water. The rain fell hard enough to make it feel like it was weighing him down anyway.
“So what does an elemental stone even look like? Is there somethin’ even special about them?” His brow furrowed in irritation as he pulled out the bookmark and tried to get some sort of information to come up. Unfortunately, the information was less than forthcoming. “Just says they can look different.” What did that even mean?
Sighing slowly, he arched a brow and looked out at the crashing waves of a sea that looked damn near angry more than anything else. The rocky ledges looked inky black from the water cascading down, and honestly none of it looked welcoming. But then, in a flash of lightning, he caught the silhouette of figures upon those craggy rocks near the shore. Not quite human, but definitely humanoid. Frowning, he looked to his companion with a frown. “Did ya see that?”

The thought had Alec looking over his shoulder nervously, rubbing the back of his neck. He scowled when rain dribbled down his neck. Too bad there wasn't a waterproof rune in the Codex. "I'm not sure but I should be able to see it." It would take a powerful glamour for Alec not to see through it. One like the Seelie Queen had cast.
Noticing that Leonard's attention wasn't focused on the sea, he turned toward the stones. Even with his runes, he could make out the details in the rain but it was obvious that whatever they'd seen wasn't human. "I did, but I don't know who they are. They're not like the Fae back home." Thankfully since the Seelie weren't happy with Shadowhunters after the Clave's punishments.

Instead, he looked around the soggy shores of Derrynane and scowled a little. "I feel like we should have brought some some of hazmat handling kit for these things." He frowned at that then looked over at Alec. "Isn't water one of those elements that makes it hard to see things?" Not that he knew, just remembered old stories from a long ways back. And he knew at some point he likely talked about those stories with Sam. But that was a very long time ago.
Narrowing his eyes a bit, he took a step back involuntarily when the next flash of lightning outlined long spiny legs as one of the creatures moved. "I don't think we're gonna want to meet one of those face to face. Wonder if they'll leave us alone if we just keep walkin'?"
no subject
"Water can make it difficult." Another story that could easily be correct in this place. "I've never had a problem with it." The words were accompanied by a shrug as he held up his hand so Leonard could see the mark on the back. "The mermaids and selkies try to hide from us but the rune usually works."
Automatically, he stepped in front of Leonard, reaching up for his bow before changing his mind. Looking aggressive might be a bad idea. "I don't want to either. We can try walking away and see what happens."
no subject
His eyes, instead, turned to look at the runes that Alec mentioned and he tipped his head. "Never did get to ask you what those did. What exactly do they do?" He assumed they had something similar to a magic quality. Even if it wasn't necessarily 'magic'. Funny how few words there were for things like that.
"Distance between us and them might be good. But I say we keep a close eye out just in case."
no subject
Eyes narrowing against the rain, Alec knew that something had changed among the figures. One had slipped away but did that mean that the Fae had sent a warning to their people or someone was sneaking up on them.
Scanning the area, he turned a slow circle, answering absentmindedly. "My runes?" That was the most logical subject for the question. "They amplify my abilities. Make me faster, stronger. They can heal certain types of injuries." There was no reason not to tell Leonard, especially if he might have to treat him sometime if Alec got hurt. "They only work on people who have angel blood."
He thought he caught a flash of movement but in the weather it was difficult to tell. "We should keep moving and we're probably headed into an ambush."

This whole place gave Barry a weird feeling like hands crawling up his back and trying to grab at him. "Everything looks like it keeps shifting around."
no subject
Turning slowly, he fought that knee-jerk reaction to pull out his tricorder again. His wasn't geared toward flora and fauna like Spock's and really, the area get gave him crazy readings he couldn't decipher. "I'm guessin' this place is alive. Hell, in the list of folk there are trees that look like bush cats. Or whatever." He snorted at that, but didn't really want to think about it.
Especially when it felt like eyes were on him as he moved. "We just need to get that crap out of here and hope not to get caught." As he took a step forward, he paused when a rustling whisper of sound came from off to one side. His eyes focused on the area a moment before he shook his head and kept walking. Even if something was there, it hadn't come at them yet. Best to keep moving. "So, how did you get so fast? If you don't mind me askin'."
no subject
Barry looks around feeling that weird prickling of his skin. The question distracts him for the moment. "Short answer is I got hit by dark matter lighting during a rain storm," he replies, "there's a bit more to it, but it's a weird story that I can't always wrap my head around."
no subject
His eyes moved away from the other man as he scanned the area around them, only to pause on a strange shadowy figure that darted past a brief clearing following along beside them. "I don't mean to sound paranoid, but I think somethin' is followin' us."
no subject
Barry chuckled softly. "You could say that," he replied, "I've had two people who claimed to be my friend betray me, time traveled to the past and screwed that up, traveled to the future and saw someone I love die. And now a friend of mine went back home and it's like another punch in the gut that I didn't really need." Barry missed Felicity deeply, he liked Thea he really did, but Felicity was one of the first real friend he connected with before he got powers and it hurt to know he won't see her again until he went home and he wasn't sure he wanted that.
Barry looked around and it felt like the Speed Force was flicking the back of his head and trying to warn him. "Yeah I think you're right.....did Bob warn you. Don't take anything they hand you and don't eat any food you don't see them eat first."
no subject
Pulling his hand away, he returned his attention to their surroundings, his eyes following different things from the wind through the trees to the possible wildlife dashing through the underbrush. "Good stuff to know. Glad he told you then." He tipped his head toward the area that looked like it was starting to whither. "Maybe if we get closer to the problem, it will stay back... even if it is malicious, don't much like the idea of hurtin' anything I don't have to."
no subject
Barry is silent for a long moment. Since he'd gotten here he'd missed his family Iris and Joe. He hoped they weren't missing him too much that Iris was safe. "Thanks," he finally says, "and I don't want to hurt anyone either but I have a feeling they are not here to bodyguard us."

At least she would have expected it until the too bright landscape dimmed to something sickly before turning dark. A shiver ran along her spine, frustrating her as much as it chilled her. There was nothing to be afraid of, especially not the dark, not after everything they'd been through before. Despite that reminder, Sam edged closer to Leonard, eyeing the shadows warily. "Other than the creepy darkness that seems to be a little too real?" She wished she could be more specific, but she wasn't going to investigate it too closely when she had no idea how magic worked. Science she could accept easily, folk myth turned real was a subject that she had no experience with.
Forcing herself to move away from her brother, Sam began moving deeper into the areas that seemed to be the most damaged. "It's sad how everything is being changed by whatever's here." Focus on that, not the way the shadows seemed to be watching them. Or the memories that brought back. "Will the ecology go back to what it was when we get rid of whatever is causing this or will this be permanent?"
no subject
His eyes moved to the shifting color of the landscape and frowned. The deep abysmal black hue of it didn't make him feel comfortable. It reminded him a bit of the skin on the bioraptors or even something even darker from a place he didn't want to remember."It's sick." Those words rang the truest out of any other he came up with. This place was sick. "It's alive unlike anything I've seen and it's sick."
Turning his head to Sam, he offered her a small smile. "Guess it's good we're here to clean it up then." The accent wasn't as strong with her. But after living with it and using it for so long, it still hovered at the edge of his words. "And only way to find out is to get it out, right? I like to hope so, though... cause the Librarians are sending us on a wild goose chase otherwise."
no subject
"If it's sick, we have to heal it," she answered softly, both unnerved and wanting to help the malignant space that was too much like the past. No matter how much it reminded them both of the dig and the horrors there, they couldn't return to the Library. They'd both spent too much time as doctors to be able to leave a whole world dying when they might be able to find a cure. "Do you think our equipment will work here?" It was worth a shot.
Returning the smile, she shook her head at the idea of this being for nothing. She had the feeling that they wouldn't be here if it was a lost cause. "If we're here, there's hope but healing might work in another way. The world might block off the diseased areas and the rest of the world carry on." Despite the memories that she hated lingering on, Sam started toward one of the areas where the darkness seemed thickest. "It might not be sickness. It could be infection. If it is, then where it's darkest is where whatever is causing this should be."
Elemental Stones!
She was fidgety - her Manual was on her but she couldn't use it - and her emotional state was currently more attuned to that nearby sea than she'd like.
"We'd be able to tell more by the feel of the stone than its look, I'd wager."
Nita cautiously eyed those silhouettes; the lightning that showed them reflected eerily off of her face as well.
"Yeah. Might want to pick up the pace."
Without falling, obviously.

"I hope there something that draws us in, cause this place is full of rocks that aren't useful at the moment." Wiping some of the water from his face, he tried not to keep looking back toward the shore as they walked. Maybe whatever they were wouldn't follow them.
"Good idea." Normally he let people like Jim or Spock take the lead, but this time he felt he needed to do more. Protect her. So he didn't argue or make a fuss as he started up another rocky path, veering away from the water. "I feel like we are just siftin' about in the dark in the rain is what we're doin'."
no subject
"Or they reflect more than normal stones should."
Nita was indeed watching for such a thing - which didn't necessarily mean she'd be the first of them to spot it.
Nothing seemed to be following them. But then, in this world, not much could be trusted to stay as it seemed. Nita followed McCoy's lead at a steady pace.
There was something about the rain-
"Maybe we should look where the rainfall is thickest? If it's a water elemental stone, it might be summoning the rain."
Contrastingly, if it were a fire stone they'd be looking for smoke.
no subject
He paused at her comment about the heaviest rain and shuddered. Of course. It made sense though. Turning back to look at her, he returned his gaze back to the rest of the world around them. He picked up the direction they needed to go and frowned. "Looks like the path gets narrower in that direction no less."
Sighing at that, he made for that direction anyway. But they needed to get up a little higher. Pausing to look at the rocks they'd have to climb up, he easily hoisted himself up on one of the higher up ones then leaned over to offer his hand to her. "C'mon, sweetheart, I'll pull ya up."
no subject
More lightning flashed as McCoy turned back, and he missed noting that those figures were gone.
"Of course it would."
Nita made a wry face at the offered hand, but it wasn't as if she could reasonably say no at this point.
"Alright."
She found her footholds and took his hand.
Cold Iron
But none of those places had had quite the feel of this place. This otherness.
For a moment he wonders what Merriman would have thought of it.
At the question the boy casts his mind out ahead, mindful not to allow too much of his own otherness to show at the moment. It wasn't a secret, exactly. But it did take rather a lot of explaining that they didn't really have time for at the moment.
"There might be something up ahead, I think."

When Will answered, he looked up in the direction he mentioned and saw the black taint curling through some of the flora and across the ground. Guess he was right. Changing his heading just a little, he kept moving in that direction. "Since we got stuck doing this... have you seen any of these things?" He had... from a distance so far. So he honestly hadn't had to deal with them yet.
Not that he didn't stay at the ready to grab his phaser the moment something unsightly jumped out at them. Though... true to his doctor status, he only had it set to stun. No point killing unless necessary.
no subject
He did not expect it to remain so. There were no fairies in his own world. Only the creatures of the Wild Magic and the Old Magic and the High Magic, and the Light and the Dark.
But Will knew the stories, even so. He could only hope that anyone they might run into would be willing to speak with an Old One.
